Notice the use of the word ‘wise’, as wisdom instead of chaos is the way forward if we are to create a thriving world, rather than merely survive it.

Chaos occurs when there is deep seated confusion and a sense of separation. Whereas Wisdom stems from a stable foundation, conscious awareness and understanding alongside grounded focused action, to align and unite individuals as well as businesses.

To start the shift to Wisdom we need to STOP – to review what’s working and what’s not!

For too long businesses have been run predominantly from a head (mind), action and ego orientated place, completely avoiding and treading on the opportunity for real success by omitting the conscious ownership of emotions, which interestingly enough are more often than not the driver behind success or failure.

This causes high levels of stress and dysfunction leading to ill health and an inability to sustain long term productivity and empowered growth for many companies, limiting wealth and success in business.

By creating an opportunity for the mind, emotions and actions (body) to work together as a collaborative team, the sense of separation dissolves and a greater level of awareness and success is achieved by the individual and the business.

Every thought we have creates an emotion, which in turn creates a chemical reaction or response in our physical body, generating either toxins (dis-ease) or endorphins (the body’s natural anti-depressants and feel good buddies). So if we ignore the fact that our mind, emotions and body are already working together unconsciously and just drive through in life, pushing our emotions to one side, instead of working consciously with this amazing process – we loose out big time!

This is not a woo woo, touchy feely way of working, it is a sensible down to earth, practical way forward for future leaders to succeed on a greater level than ever before.

When we do not take leadership of all parts of ourselves, how can we achieve empowered leadership of others, whether they are our children, family, colleagues, staff or company?

Working as a team with our different aspects, eliminates stress, fears and ill health. Consciously collaborating with these different parts generates a stronger sense of self and an inner foundation of Leadership Presence which naturally attracts more heartfelt and empowered wins externally

Collaboration Within creates Collaboration Without

For too long we have left the heart out of business, and often out of our day to day life. It is now time to update and allow ourselves to choose wisdom over chaos to move towards new more authentic ways of relating and doing business.

As a conscious business person you have a lot on your plate—clients to secure and keep happy, bills to pay, choices for advertising, office space, best platform to offer your services…just to name a few! It is no wonder that you might be feeling a little anxious, tense, and stressed on a daily basis. However, the negative feelings you experience are likely to be coming from more than your business challenges alone.

Did you know that the way you breathe can actually cause anxiety? The pattern of breathing that typically accompanies feelings of fear, stress, and anxiety tends to be shallow, rapid—or worse yet—you hold your breath for extended periods. This is a normal response to a threatening stimulus (such as a deadline fast approaching!).

Our breathing shifts according to the “fight or flight” response from our reptilian brain, preparing us to take serious action if the threat persists (like getting off your behind and making those calls!).

However, the trouble comes when you are not faced with an immediate stressful stimulus and still find yourself breathing shallow or holding your breath. This is an indication that you have habituated yourself to “emergency” breathing and, as a consequence, the feelings of fear or anxiety are now a habit as well.

The good news: to change the way you feel, simply change the way you breathe. The pattern of breathing that accompanies feelings of joy, peace, and general well-being is a deeply diaphragmatic, fluid, unrestrained breath. Whenever you feel yourself becoming stressed, tense or anxious, shift your paradigm by taking a minute or two to consciously take a connected series of full, deep breaths. You will not only feel better in the moment, but if you keep at it you will replace your habit of persistent anxiety with one of perpetual well-being—even at times when everything seems to conspire against you. That’s what I call real business success!

The answer actually comes from your body! Yes, you get a “feeling”. It may be a gut feeling, or a tightness in your chest. Some people get “blurry vision”. It is your body telling you something is wrong. Our body can provide our first warning signal that we’re out of alignment. Pay attention and give yourself time to think through the situation when you are calm.

You might literally ask your heart: What is the best way to handle this? Then listen for what you already knew in your heart. When you follow that answer, you will feel a heartfelt relief, because you know you are doing the right thing. Then you will know you are in alignment with the values of a conscious business.

We have been in hibernation here in the Midwest. We even were gifted with 3 inches of snow the first day of spring! As we spring out of winter, which was time for looking inward, and move into spring, it is now time for growth, expansion, fuller expression. Take a cue from the flowers pushing through the soil, the robbins who have returned happy and singing their hearts out. Sing the song of your soul’s purpose here on earth. Now is the time to proclaim your business to the world! What better way than to share the value only you can offer the world through your product or service. Your business is selling your business! We all have heard about Facebook and Twitter and all the rest which we will talk about next week.

First let’s practice the face to face variety of sharing how you can help others through your product or service. Without this, you can thwart your efforts to start or grow your business. It is probably the main reason why smart and talented people never enjoy financial independence. This is big. But it can also be invisible. I was held back by this invisible problem for years. It prevented me from making the money I knew I deserved and very capable of making! When I finally saw it clearly, everything fell into place. Now you can eliminate this issue too with the steps outlined in our article this week!

9 Steps to Networking Like a Pro

Looking to find a new joint venture partner, a new social circle, or expand your business network? Here are 9 proven steps to be more effective, make more sustainable connections and with less stress!

For some people, networking comes naturally, for others it can feel awkward and contrived, even downright exhausting. Even folks who have been networking for years feel there must be a more natural way to network. Over the years, I have obserbed many networkers performing at various levels of success. Though they each have their own style, here is a system that is used often. It is based on an open heart, an open mind, and as a speech coach I know calls it, your authentic voice. The main intention is to create, nurture and develop mutually beneficial relationships, over time, that reach across all areas of your life.

1. Successful networking is building relationships. You may have heard this before. Networking requires an investment in time and effort to create long-term relationships. Scope out the people you find interesting and then build the relationships over time. Remember the old adage of know, like, and trust. Give it time.
2. Have a genuine interest in other people. People are intuitive. They see past your title, business suit, etc. and can sense who you truly are. Spend time getting to know the whole person. Ask about their interests outside of work. Ask about their hobbies, their family, the latest book or movie they liked. Meet the people they socialize with at that particular event.
3. Listen more than you talk. I know sometimes this can be a challenge. Sometimes it is a Godsend. Be curious and be an active listener. Listen and be amazed at the wealth of information people share.
4. Offer up value before asking for anything in return. Successful networkers give without strings attached and are confident in their ability to give. They interact with others from a mindset of “How can I help you?” But also know their boundaries to avoid giving it all away for free.
5. Networking happens anywhere, anytime, any way. You can network in the supermarket, in yoga class, or at the dentist. Pay attention and practice this one. For example, you may have noticed how many folks set up shop at your local Starbuck’s.
6. Successful networkers treat everyone equally. They don’t let egos get in the way of connecting with others. They are also very open to being approached by others. Everyone has some unique talent to share that you might never expect at first glance.
7. Create trust by being authentic and transparent. Keep your word, act with integrity, and treat relationships with care.
8. Be sensitive to the other person’s feelings. Make the other person feel comfortable. Always remember to never take things too personally. Others may be nervous or uncomfortable in this setting and may make an awkward comment.
9. Have fun with it! Networking is invaluable for business building, finding babysitters, a great dentist, your next date! Challenge yourself to see how many different places and reasons you can practice these skills!
